How much does your horse trust you?

Kota, Cali Canberra's Quarter Horse mare

Kota spends the morning and early afternoon like this when I'm not riding!

If you can approach your horse while he’s laying down and he doesn’t get up before you get close, your horse at least somewhat trusts you. If he’ll let you pet him while he’s laying…you get more points. If he’ll let you sit on him…you earn even more points!
Mojo, Cali Canberra's Arabian gelding

Mojo lets me sit on him but no one is ever around with a camera when you need them! Where's my paparazzi?

Do you trust your horse enough to lay down with your head and shoulders leaning against your horse’s back? If you can do it and your horse remains calm and laying down then you win! Your horse has enormous trust in you! CAUTION: NEVER lay with your head & shoulders on your horse’s belly though – one startling move and you’ll probably never be able to read My Horse Guru again… or my novels! So please don’t be that daring and idiotic!

If I can ever get pictures to show you of me sitting on Mojo I’ll post them! Kota only lets me pet her while she’s laying even though I’ve owned her for more than two years longer than Mojo. Of course, that’s partially because Quarter Horses aren’t as smart and bonding as Arabians – Yes…Mojo’s the Arabian!

Love the Article…but unfortunately you are stereotyping horses….Quarter Horses are very smart and bond just as easily as any breed. I can actually sit and lay on my QH and when asked she will stand up with me on her back…she has only turned 3 years old and she is shown something new only once and she will know it forever…I love her, respect her and spend alot of time just being with her. I think every breed has the same potential, good luck with Mojo, it's all in the training and time well spent!!
